International Team of the UFZ Science-Policy Expert Group

In TEEB Phase 2, a UFZ team led by Heidi Wittmer and Carsten Neßhöver acted as scientific coordination of the TEEB initiative. The UFZ team was responsible for the coordination between and consistency across the different TEEB reports and for ensuring due scientific procedures in their development. Heidi Wittmer also co-coordinated the report on TEEB for Local and Regional Policy Makers.

In TEEB Phase 3, UFZ continues supporting the TEEB process, mainly by advising the TEEB coordination group on scientific matters and by supporting the UNEP-TEEB office in the development of a network and facilitation approach. Besides its ongoing research activities on TEEB issues, UFZ also participates in the translation of academic TEEB knowledge for capacity building, and is a partner in several international projects, where it provides scientific expertise as well as conceptual backstopping to efforts towards applying TEEB in regional development and nature conservation policy.

In 2012, the UFZ team organized the first TEEB conference on “Challenges for Science and Implementation”, bringing together the international TEEB community from policy and research. UFZ also serves as German focal point for disseminating TEEB concepts and knowledge in the national context and it is leading and coordinating a national TEEB study (TEEB-DE).
