Training TEEB for Water and Wetlands

25.11.13 - 27.11.13

To promote better integration of knowledge, policy and action for sustainable and wise use of wetlands, UNEP and UNESCO-IHE will organize a training workshop “TEEB for Water and Wetlands”, to be held at the Hotel Africana, Kampala, Uganda, from 25 to 27 November 2013.

The workshop will pay particular attention to East Africa and will be hosted by the Ramsar Centre for East Africa (RAMCEA). The workshop will bring together wetlands scientists and managers who can play an active role in disseminating the knowledge gained in the workshop and help mainstreaming the values of water and wetlands into decision-making.

The objectives of the training include:

  • Generate better understanding of the values of water and wetland ecosystem services
  • Learn how the values of ecosystem service related to water and wetlands can better inform decision making
  • Make practical recommendations of how to include these values in decision making
  • Share experiences in managing water and wetlands

This workshop is the second training workshop organized as part of the dissemination of the main recommendations of the TEEB for Water and Wetlands report. The first TEEB training workshop on “Mainstreaming the values of water and wetlands into decision-making” was  held 31 August 2013, in Bali Indonesia, organized as part of the 6th Annual International Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP) conference

The workshop builds on the recommendations from the TEEB for Water and Wetlands report, and is a follow up of the the successful first International Wetlands Forum which convened in Kigali, Rwanda, from 8-12th July 2013.
